OUR STORY

At 'Mind in the Mountains,' our mission is to inspire and empower individuals to embrace their natural creativity, express their hearts authentically, and awaken their innate desire for beauty.

Rooted in three fundamental virtues — humility, patience, and joy — we find our foundation in the embrace of creation itself: the mountains.

Our name, 'Mind in the Mountains,' signifies an embrace by the tall mountains, which are a natural work of art by the original artist, God.

Founded by Talya Jane Shelley, who leverages her background in Architecture and Psychology to inform her workshops and creations, 'Mind in the Mountains' creates healing spaces designed to help individuals recognize the inherent value in their lives and personhood through the power of art. Having confronted her own mental health challenges, Talya shares these accessible methods and experiences in an engaging and enjoyable manner, leading to healing and restoration.

Our profound desire is for people to rediscover their innate creativity, just as they did when they were children, and to share their authentic stories, explore the mysteries of life, and find restoration and healing through the medium of art.

“Nobody escapes being wounded. We are all wounded people, whether physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually. The main question is not 'How can we hide our wounds?' so we don't have to be embarrassed but 'How can we put our roundedness in the service of others?' When our wounds cease to be a source of shame and become a source of healing, we have become wounded healers.”

―Henri Nouwen
